As a newly affiliated CND group, the University of York CND society has been working hard to engage students at the university as well as the larger York community. We’ve been very active, often hosting an event every week, with particular highlights being a talk with Rachael Maskell (MP for York Central), a film showing of Threads and a cross-party debate on the issue of Trident which packed a lecture hall.
We were keen to take part in what was a very successful national CND demonstration in London on the 27th February, and were able to take 15 of our members down to the demonstration. With the upcoming vote on Trident, we’re aiming to keep trying to get our message across to people to further build support for not renewing it. We have events upcoming including a film showing of When The Wind Blows (given the success with Threads), a cross-society event with the Green Party in bringing in local York councillor Denise Craghill for a talk, as well as taking part on campus in the International Conscientious Objectors day on the 15th May organised by the York Quakers On Campus Society.
All of our events are open to the public and we’d be more than happy for people to get involved. The best way to keep up to date is through our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/UoYCND however feel free to email us at cnd@yusu.org for updates.
