Today Leeds CND waved goodbye to nuclear weapons in our part of the international global wave to mark the beginning of the NPT (Non-Proliferation Treaty) conference in New York. Our very own Dave Webb (CND Chair) is in New York where the wave was sent on its way at 1.20PM local time. From there it has crossed the Atlantic and made it to the UK and is now heading the long way round back to New York.
A group of us braved the harsh summer weather without sun cream and heroically stood outside the beautiful Art Gallery while nice people stopped to take photos of our oversized hands and (banner sized) banners.
There was a refreshing amount of interest in the demo, with people approaching us for leaflets and only one person confronting us ‘hippy dreamers’.
