Book launch: ‘No To Nuclear’ (Leeds)

Join us for a special book launch with author and founder of the US-based non-profit Beyond Nuclear, Linda Pentz Gunter.

Linda is visiting Leeds on her UK tour promoting her new book: ‘No To Nuclear. Why Nuclear Power Destroys Lives, Derails Climate Progress and Provokes War’.

Nuclear power is everywhere in the news. We are told it’s needed to solve climate change, to keep electricity bills down and to deliver jobs; even that it’s “green” and “homegrown” energy. Promoters claim the new reactors will be cheaper and safer, and have solved the radioactive waste problem. But is any of this true?

In this new book, published by Pluto Press in March 2026, Linda Pentz Gunter debunks the nuclear myths. But she also puts the human face on the story, looking at the negative impacts of nuclear power and nuclear weapons on human rights, and the welfare of animals and nature, telling the stories of those victimised all along the nuclear chain, from uranium mining to nuclear power plants to the bomb.

Linda will be giving a talk about her book, answering questions and prompting discussion. She will also be signing copies of her book, which will be available to purchase on the night, by card or cash.

Andrew Metheven will be our host and discussant alongside Linda. Andrew works for War Resisters International, and the Commonweal Collection, a social justice library in Bradford. He previously worked for Climate Action Leeds.

We meet at Imagine Leeds: the climate action hub, part of the Climate Action Leeds Network, at 9 Blenheim Terrace, LS2 9HZ. Imagine Leeds is a community venue for collaboration on climate, nature and social justice – with event space, meetings rooms and desk hire available.

This event has been organised by Leeds Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, Imagine Leeds, Beyond Nuclear and the Radical Reading Room at Left Bank. It has been rescheduled from our original June date after extreme heat forced us to cancel.
