There is a long and proud history in Sheffield of civic campaigning for peace, from the Nuclear Free Zones to the employment of council 'Peace Officers', a reflection of the depth of feeling on the issue in South Yorkshire which remains one of the areas of CND highest membership in Yorkshire.
