NHS Birthday 5th July – time to say NHS NOT Trident!

Yorkshire CND is proud to be working with Build Back Better, a coalition which campaigns for a new deal that protects public services, tackles inequality in our communities, provides secure well-paid jobs and creates a shockproof economy which can fight the climate crisis. Our role within the coalition is to raise awareness that the huge sums of money spent on militarisation and nuclear weapons can be better spent fighting the pandemic, and rebuilding a more robust NHS and social care system.

One of Build Back Better’s upcoming events is to mark the 72nd birthday of the NHS on 5th July, and what better way for CND members to do so, than to be proclaiming NHS Not Trident! We already have placards, posters, badges and stickers, and many of you will have your fantastic NHS not Trident T-shirts tucked away. Build Back Better are asking people to bake birthday cakes, send photos and post on social media.

GET INVOLVED!

Why not bake a cake wearing your T-shirt, and send a photo to your MP (and us!). Or, if you can manage to do so in a safe and socially distanced way, meet up with a couple of friends, perhaps outside a hospital, clinic or surgery, wear your T-shirts, hold your placards, and make sure you send us a photo!  If you are planning something, let us know and we can add it to our website and various NHS birthday event listings.

If posting on social media, use the hashtags #BuildBackBetter #NHSnotTrident #2020vision and tag in @BuildBckBetter, @yorkshireCND, @CNDuk and @keepnhspublic

You may also like to take part in CND’s ‘Wash our Hands of Trident to Combat Covid 19’ initiative, to contact MPs to urge them to spend the Trident billions on fighting the pandemic. You can do this in just a few clicks from their website  though personal letters are always more impactful.
