
Many of our local groups will have been planning to organise special events to mark the 75th anniversary since the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. At this moment, it is difficult to predict which of these plans will need to be replaced with online events, and which will be able to proceed in an amended way.
Below are the events that are planned that we are aware of, but this may change so please check this blog post again for updates.
Leeds CND will hold Nagasaki Day commemoration on Sunday 9th August. More info
Calder Valley CND will host Hiroshima/Nagasaki Day commemoration – 9th August. Gather at 10.50am, Sunday 9th August, at the green next to the Cafe in Calder Holmes Park, Hebden Bridge. Contact kathypitt725@hotmail.com for details – or see facebook event.
Keighley CND will hold a vigil on 6th August, between 11-12pm, in the Town Square, where the town mayor will read the annual message from the the Mayor of Hiroshima. – please contact robinandsylvia@aol.com for more info.
Bradford CND are having a ceremony between 11-11.45am on Saturday 8th August with a number of speakers including the Bishop of Bradford, Toby Haworth, the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Doreen Lee, Bradford Poet Sarena Lee Satti and Bradford MP Naz Shah. The ceremony has been moved to a virtual event due to local lock-down restrictions.
Sheffield Creative Action for Peace and Sheffield CND are planning a short vigil outside the Town Hall at 12 noon on Thursday 6 August from which we will send messages of solidarity to the Mayors and peoples of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
