Yorkshire marks the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons at Menwith Hill & Fylingdales

26 September @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

The Nuke Free Europe network is coordinating a month of action this September to highlight the presence of nuclear weapons stationed across the continent. Here in the UK, we will be shining a spotlight on the nuclear chain by encouraging action at nuclear sites across the country on September 26th, the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons. This is an opportunity to highlight the government’s twisted priorities – increasing its number of nuclear warheads during a pandemic while refusing to pay nurses properly.

In the Yorkshire region, CND and Menwith Hill Accountability Campaign are using this anniversary as an opportunity to protest outside both Fylingdales and Menwith Hill spy base. As Fylingdales is even more difficult to get to, a few of us will be organising cars to travel up there in the morning and make our way back to Menwith Hill in the afternoon. Many more will be protesting outside Menwith Hill from 4pm.

If you’d like to know more about transport to Fylingdales, please e-mail us on info@yorkshirecnd.org.uk. Due to the ongoing health crisis the protest outside Menwith Hill will be socially distanced, with a couple of different options for walks around the base. We are not able to provide toilet facilities but we will be providing and encouraging participants to bring tea to commemorate the tee-total elimination of nuclear weapons on a Sunday afternoon!

Hope to see many of you there.
