The Bomb on my back – webinar with Reiko Asato and Joseph Gerson

9 August @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

At 11.02am on the 9th August 1945 a nuclear bomb named ‘Fat Man’ was exploded 1,650 feet above the city of Nagasaki killing and injuring at least 70,000 people immediately.

Greater Manchester CND has invited two international speakers to educate us about and help us reflect on the terrible bombing of Nagasaki.

Joseph Gerson (American Friends Services Committee) will speak about his research on Sumiteru TANIGUCHI and Senji YAMAGUCHI, two survivors (Hibakusha) of the atomic bombing of Nagasaki in 1945. As children, both men suffered devastating injuries which impacted the rest of their lives. Their courage and determination to campaign for nuclear disarmament and peace has been an international inspiration.

Rieko Asato, from the Japan Council Against Atomic and Hydrogen Bombs (Gensuikyo), will speak about the International Peace Wave 2020 and report from the 2020 World Conference Against A&H Bombs. More on the Peace Wave here
