The annual Olof Palme Peace Lecture

25th October 2023 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Join the Peace Museum for the annual Olof Palme Lecture, which this year will be held in the Bury Theatre at the Royal Armouries Museum.

This year’s lecture will be given by Clive Barrett, Chair of the Peace Museum in Bradford and a peace movement historian. Clive will draw on imagery and objects from the Peace Museum’s collection to explore how insights from the history of peace movements can inspire those working for peace today.

The annual Olof Palme Memorial Peace Lecture was first established in 1987 in memory of Olof Palme, a politician, statesman, peace campaigner and outspoken opponent of apartheid in South Africa who was assassinated in Stockholm in 1986. The lectures are organised by Leeds CND, Leeds Peace Link Committee, and Leeds Beckett University.

The Peace Museum, unique in the UK, explores the history and often untold stories of peace, peacemakers and the peace movement. It is rooted in its collection of over 16,000 objects, each telling a story of peace and peace-making. Based in Bradford for 30 years, the Peace Museum is temporarily closed and will reopen in summer 2024 at Salts Mill, Saltaire, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

WHEN: Weds Oct 25th, 2023 (7:30pm*)

*Doors and drinks reception will begin at 6.30pm, with the lecture starting at 7.30pm with time to explore the War Gallery at the Royal Armouries.
