Sheffield Film Festival: Threads (40th Anniversary) + Panel

6 June @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Forty years since it terrified a nation, Showroom Cinema presents a very special anniversary screening of Mick Jackson’s seminal film, Threads.

Young lovers Ruth (Karen Meagher) and Jimmy (Reece Dinsdale) decide to get married after Ruth unexpectedly gets pregnant. But their quiet lives in Sheffield, England, are threatened when the Soviet Union and United States go to war. After a nuclear attack destroys a NATO base 20 miles from Sheffield, the town falls into chaos. Ruth and Jimmy are separated as the fallout spreads. Ruth must struggle to survive alone in the post-apocalyptic landscape.

Threads will be followed by a panel discussion from experts on the film and its themes. Panellists: Professors Jonathan Raynor, David Forrest, and Sue Vice (The University of Sheffield), and Robert Nevitt (Celluloid Screams/co-director of a new documentary on the making of Threads).
