You’re invited to a peace-themed day at Open Source Arts to explore what peace means for you and for others, alongside a celebration of the Autumn Equinox 2023!
Join us for 2 film screenings (one for children and one for adults), yoga for children and for adults, creative activities, opportunities for discussion of the themes of peace as well as a bring & share meal social.
More details to follow!
Film 1: Re-member/リ・メンバー
Why do us humans always try to put ourselves at the centre of the earth? In this short animated film, we ask ourselves what actions can we take right now to help the planet? The film has won awards at various international film festivals including Heart International Italian Film Festival and WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival in the United States.
Film 2: In This Corner Of the World
This crowdfunded film is the story of a young woman from Hiroshima City in the early Showa era (1926-1989), which used memories from Japanese survivors to help depict a real town that existed. It aims to remind us of how invaluable our mundane everyday life is, how cruel war can be, and how precious peace is.
There will be time for reflection, led through a yoga session by the peace-studies graduate Asher Jael, and a discussion hosted by Sam Legg, who recently attended Hiroshima as a UK representative for the G7 Youth Summit.
This Peace day aptly follows the International Day of Peace (21st September) and The International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons (26th September), with Autumn Equinox falling on 23rd September 2023.
All proceeds will be split between the artists and facilitators, the venue, and Yorkshire CND (Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament).
