Party for Peace! Leeds CND Benefit

3 October @ 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm

In a world ravaged by pandemic and the rapidly growing threat of climate change, there is no need for nuclear weapons. These weapons of mass destruction cause untold destruction and cost huge sums of money. The Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament campaigns to ensure the British state and governments across the world abolish these weapons.

The United Nations has passed a Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons and a resolution endorsing this has been passed by Leeds City Council and a tree has been planted in Park Square to commemorate this. Leeds CND will be erecting a plaque at the tree promoting the campaign for a nuclear-free world and we plan to step up our campaigning over the coming months. It is in this spirit that we would like to invite you to a benefit hosted by Leeds CND. We will have live music and performances, a vegetarian BBQ, drinks and sheltered outdoor as well as indoor space. As this is a fundraiser we ask that if you can afford a solidarity fee you do, but we have unwaged and waged fees as well so the event is accessible for as many as possible.Look forward to seeing you there as we party for peace! Bands include:

  • ‘Hands Across’ is a small friendly, peace-loving ceilidh band that grew out of Briggate Morris, Leeds’ North-West clog Morris team. The line-up is mainly squeezeboxes and fiddles. We focus on British and Irish music for set dances but with a healthy admixture of (continental) European and Israeli circle dance tunes.
  • More to be confirmed!

Entrance fee: £5 unwaged / £7.50 waged / £12 solidarity
