Opening of Nuclear Test exhibition at Peace Museum
10 October @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
Over the Fence… to the other side of the world exhibition opening
Our latest exhibition, Over the Fence… to the other side of the world explores the social history of Britain’s Nuclear Test Veterans, the risks they were subjected to and their fight for recognition by the British Government.
Don’t miss our special Opening event Thursday 10th October, 5.30 – 8.00pm featuring talks from the curators – Dr Becky Alexis-Martin and Wesley Perriman, a short film screening and a chance to look around the exhibition.
Britain tested its first nuclear bomb off the coast of Australia in 1952 and by April 1958, thousands of protesters marched from London to Atomic Weapons Research Establishment (AWRE) Aldermaston in opposition to nuclear bombs.
Told through veteran’s stories and new objects, the exhibition is looking over the fence of AWRE to the other side of the world, to tell untold stories of soldiers involved and explore the human cost Britain’s involvement in The Cold War and its wider impact on the peace movement.
