Nuclear Free Local Authorities 40th anniversary webinar

4 November @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm

November 2020 is a milestone for the Nuclear Free Local Authorities as it commemorates the 40th anniversary of its formation. In 1980 Councils from across the UK (and later) the Republic of Ireland passed resolutions of concern over the potential for a nuclear weapon attack and to oppose developing civil defence plans for them.

With the Chernobyl and Fukushima disasters it has also raised many concerns over the safety and need for nuclear power. And now it also advocates the positive role of decentralised energy. As a part of the Nobel Peace Laureate ICAN coalition this webinar will celebrate 40 years of dynamic and radical activity.

To remember this milestone there will be special webinar that looks at our origins, our partnerships and our relevance today. Amongst the speakers will be a video message from the Mayor of Nagasaki, Manchester Councillor Eddy Newman who counter-signed the Manchester resolution, representatives from Vienna City Council and KIMO International, the former and current NFLA Secretaries Stewart Kemp and Sean Morris, the General Secretary of CND Kate Hudson and former Principal Emergency Planning Officer for Leeds City Council Bob Overy

To register for this webinar, which will be held on Microsoft Teams, email NFLA Secretary Sean Morris – s.morris4@manchester.gov.uk – If you have any queries please ring Sean on 07771 930196. The NFLA website has further details on its work – https://www.nuclearpolicy.info
