Nuclear Convoys Doncaster street stall

17th January 2019 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

We will be taking to the streets of Doncaster to tell people about nuclear convoys, which pass by very close to Doncaster on the A1.

Nuclear warheads and other materials are transported between MoD bases by road, often passing through Yorkshire on the A1.

The nuclear materials are transported in convoys of up to 20 vehicles. They are meant to be secret, and carry no warning symbols to alert people to the radioactive contents in the case of an accident. The local authorities and emergency services are often not informed before a nuclear convoy passes through the area.

Despite the supposed secrecy, the convoys use public roads, are easily recognisable, and are often tracked and photographed en route.

A 2014 MoD report revealed that, in preparedness exercises, responses to accidents involving nuclear convoys were woefully inadequate. There have reportedly been 180 “safety incidents” with the convoys since 2000.

A serious accident near Doncaster could have catastrophic implications for local people.

Join us in talking to the public to raise awareness of nuclear convoys, and maybe find some new nukewatchers to help keep track of these dangerous convoys.

We will be having a street stall outside Doncaster market on Market Place, from 11am. You are welcome to join us.
