CND Benefit Gig: catbandcat & friends

5th October 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 11:00 pm

The gig comes just before #keepspaceforpeace week, and forms part of our freshers plans for September & October. So why not come along to learn more about our campaign and the militarisation of space, alongside a night guaranteed to get your body groovin’!

catbandcat – 9:30pm

One of Manchester’s newest, brightest, and most eclectic bands. “Orchestral EDM” is how someone has previously described the 6-piece, experimental, electronic pop band’s sound.

Having played at esteemed venues all over the country, such as The Windmill (London) and Night&Day (Manchester), they will be returning to Leeds following their snug set at Hyde Park Book Club. Be excited for a dance floor pumped up with some heavy beats and audience participation!

Check out their set at The Windmill here:

For fans of: Jockstrap, Björk & Four Tet.

Emily Faux – 9:25pm

Emily Faux will be appearing as our guest speaker. Her PhD thesis, ‘Do Nukes go POP?’ is seeking to understand how images and discourse in contemporary popular culture (film, TV, and video game) challenge, sustain, or produce narratives about nuclear weapons and war.

The Harvey Parkin-Christie / Hinrik Þórisson Duo – 8:45pm

@harveyparkinchristie & @hinrikthorisson are a transcontinental collaboration in the spirit of forward-thinking improvised music and the Avant Garde. Comprised of British saxophonist Harvey Parkin-Christie and Icelandic drummer Hinrik Þórisson, this Leeds based duo have captivated audiences with their raw and emotional performances.

Described as “fearless and building on influence from players like Roland Kirk, Albert Ayler, Tobias Delius and John Butcher” the duo take influence from European, Scandinavian, and American traditions. Together, the Duo have recorded their debut album which aims to be released late November 2023 on Leeds based experimental music label Lamplight Social Records.

A music project by Chris Humphries formed in Manchester late 2018, now based in the East End of London. The North By South toured intensively across the country with a variety of musicians, including at Kendal Calling. His descriptive storytelling is accompanied by guitar riffs nostalgic of the classic 2000’s indie craze.

Fusing elements of Progressive Rock with catchy video game inspired synth melodies, Metora Cliffs grip listeners with their colourful and unique sound whilst gifting super-fun and supercharged live performances at their shows!
