Calder Valley CND Hiroshima & Nagasaki Commemorations

9th August 2020 @ 10:50 am - 11:25 pm

Join us on 9th August for a socially distanced commemoration of 75th Anniversary of the bombing of Nagasaki.

Our Hiroshima/Nagasaki commemoration events are usually very well attended, moving and enjoyable events, with lots of music (pictured last year) as well as readings. Unfortunately this year, despite it being the 75th anniversary of the nuclear bombings of Japan, we cannot hold the same type of event due to COVID-19.
However we cannot allow this milestone to pass without marking it in some way, so we will be holding a shorter, smaller, socially distanced event in Calder Holmes park in Hebden Bridge, where there is a bit more space.

The Mayor of Hebden Royd will read the Mayor of Nagasaki’s Peace Declaration, and there will be a number of other poems and readings. We can’t hand out leaflets this year, but we’ll have a big banner to let people know what we are commemorating.

The event is not being advertised beyond CND members and supporters on this list to avoid having too many people attend, but we hope to welcome some of you on this list to join us.

Please wear a mask if you can, and respect the 2m distance from other people.

Gather at 10.50am, Sunday 9th August, at the green next to the Cafe in Calder Holmes Park, Hebden Bridge. If you have a peace badge, please wear it. The event will be finished by around 11.25.
